While you don’t deliver the assessment, you do play a vital role in helping your apprentice succeed. Here’s how:
1. Create a Supportive Work Environment
- Give your apprentice time and space to develop their skills
- Involve them in real tasks that relate to their standard
- Offer consistent feedback and mentoring
2. Engage in the Gateway Process
Before the EPA can happen, the apprentice must be signed off as “ready.”
You may be asked to:
- Review and confirm they’re performing at the required level
- Approve their readiness alongside the training provider
3. Encourage and Motivate
Apprentices can feel nervous about their EPA. You can help by:
- Offering reassurance
- Helping them prepare (e.g., mock interviews)
- Ensuring they have time to revise or practise
4. Stay Informed
Understanding what the EPA involves helps you:
- Support more effectively
- Plan team resources
- Align training with assessment goals
That’s where we come in.
